The Medicines Patent Pool is recruiting a Communications Manager for its Geneva 
office (maternity leave cover for six months, from March to the end of 
September 2020). This position will be closed as soon as the right candidate is

Location: Geneva, Switzerland

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed public health 
organisation working to increase access to, and facilitate the development of, 
life-saving medicines for low- and middle-income countries. Through its 
innovative business model, MPP partners with civil society, governments, 
international organisations, industry, patient groups and other stakeholders, 
to prioritise and license needed medicines and pool intellectual property to 
encourage generic manufacture and the development of new formulations. To date, 
MPP has signed agreements with ten patent holders for thirteen HIV 
antiretrovirals, one HIV technology platform, three hepatitis C direct-acting 
antivirals and a tuberculosis treatment. MPP was founded by Unitaid, which 
serves as sole funder for MPP’s activities in HIV, hepatitis C and tuberculosis.

MPP is now expanding its activities to cover Essential Medicines, which 
requires engagement with many new stakeholders, including potential funders.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

The Communications Manager supports the Head of Communications.
She/He is responsible for writing communications materials and managing MPP's 
online presence, with specific attention to social media engagement and the 
management of the MPP website, and will manage other key communications 
projects as required.

The Communications Manager reports to the Head of Communications and will 
particularly support her, during the assignment, on MPP’s website revamp, 
impact stories and ten-year anniversary.

Responsibilities include:

Write and edit communications materials including, but not limited to, press 
releases and statements, web copy and newsletter content;
Support MPP's outreach to media and manage social media engagement;
Support the organisation of MPP's ten-year anniversary to happen in May 2020, 
including preparation of side-event at the World Health Assembly, and 
production of a special report;

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, manage the development of 
MPP's impact stories following field trips to India and Ukraine. This includes 
working closely with videographers to develop powerful impact videos and 
develop additional content such as written stories, photo stories etc. Kick off 
process for organising next field trip to South Africa to happen in the fall 
2020 (October/November).

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications and in close collaboration 
with other departments, manage the preparation of key events such as AIDS2020, 
including materials, agenda and planning;

Manage MPP's website revamp project with the support of MPP's Communications 
Officer and external website/design suppliers. This includes the development of 
an interactive map and other technical features;

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Communications to implement 
MPP's communications strategy.


- A track record of outstanding performance in professional and academic 
- Excellent writing skills;
- Computer savvy, with successful experience managing multiple social media 
platforms and genuine interest for new technologies and innovative 
communications tools;
- Strong background in project management with the ability to work under 
pressure on multiple technical projects, liaising with external providers and 
internal departments;
- Superb attention to detail;
- Experience of working across teams to deliver results;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress and Mailchimp required;
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign a plus.

Education and special training:
- University degree.

Experience (length and nature):
- Five to ten years of full-time work experience in a related field.
- Experience of communications in public health setting required, knowledge of 
issues related to access to medicines and intellectual property a plus.

Use of Languages:
- Full fluency in English is required.
- Proficiency to fluency in French a plus.
