[e-drug] Survey: safe handling of cytotoxic medicines in low & middle-income countries

E-DRUG: Survey: safe handling of cytotoxic medicines in low & middle-income
countries
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir or Dear Madam,

Pharm-Ed project (www.Pharm-Ed.net) and the University Hospitals of Geneva
developed a *self-assessment tool for safe handling of cytotoxic medicines
(CM) in healthcare facilities adapted to resource-constrained settings
(Cyto-SAT)*. This tool was developed through a consensus of International
pharmaceutical experts in oncology pharmacy practice.

The rising burden of cancer in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) and a
higher use of chemotherapy treatments stress the need to improve safe
handling practices of CM in order to ensure patient safety, to reduce
occupational exposure and to protect the environment. In this context,
Cyto-SAT was designed to be used as a tool to promote and support ongoing
quality improvement in those countries.

In order to implement Cyto-SAT in local settings, we are looking for
healthcare facilities from LMIC, dealing with parenteral cytotoxic
medicines and interested in using this self-assessment tool.

The study has the following objectives:

1) To obtain an overview of cytotoxic handling practices in various
resource-constrained settings in order to highlight opportunities for
potential improvements and identify needs for building educational
resources.

2) To obtain a global evaluation of the tool regarding its usefulness,
applicability and ease of use

Results will be used anonymously.

This project has no financial or commercial interest. The tool will remain
available online in open access for future use. There is no incentive to
join the study.

Hopefully this project will be of high interest for you and we remain
available for any further question.

Sincerely,
