and Pharmaceutical Management in Hospitals to be held at IIHMR University,
Jaipur, India, from February 26 to March 2, 2018.The IIHMR University, Jaipur
is an institution dedicated to improvement in standards of health through
better management of health care and related programs. It seeks to accomplish
this through management education, training, research, consultation and
institutional networking in a national and global perspective. The institute
has been designated as WHO collaborating Center for District Health Systems
based on Primary Health Care. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India has identified the institute as an Institute of Excellence

This institute has been contributing towards this very topical issue of
international importance through its flagship WHO sponsored International
Courses in Promoting Rational Drug Use in Communities (PRDUC).; Since 2003, 13
PRDUC programs, 3 international courses on Anti-retroviral and Related Drug
Supply Chain Management in Low Resource Settings, 5 international training
courses in Medication and Pharmaceutical Management in Hospitals, 3 programs on
“ Rational Use of Medicines with focus on HIV, TB & Malaria”
and one program on “ International Procurement of Medicines & Health
Supplies” have already been organized by the IIHMR. In view of the
current global focus on Rational Use of Medicines in hospitals through
Pharmaceutical / Drugs & Therapeutics Committees (PTC/DTC) a one-week
Course on Medication and Pharmaceutical Management in Hospitals to be held at
IIHMR University, Jaipur, India, from February 26 to March 2, 2018.
Objectives of The Program.
The program will provide the participants with the tools and techniques for
medication and pharmaceutical management in hospitals. The specific objectives
of the program are:
* To enable participants, understand and comprehend the concepts and principles
of access to medicines with tools and interventions to promote rational use of
medicines in hospitals
* To facilitate appreciation and significance of Drug and Therapeutics
Committees (DTCs) towards pharmaceutical management in hospitals with its
goals, role, structure, and functions.
* To enable participants, understand issues related to quality & safety of
medicines and supply chain management
* To understand antimicrobial resistance, approaches for containment and
antibiotic policy
* To expose the participants to practical approaches in developing effective
strategies for change.
Course Content
The course consists of discussion on following areas:
* Problem of irrational use of medicines
* Evidence based medicine
* Tools, interventions, and strategies to improve medicines use
* Concepts of Formulary and Standard Treatment Guidelines, and Drugs &
Therapeutics Committees, its structure, and functions
* Formulary management
* Quality assurance of medicines
* Basic cost-effectiveness evaluation
* Patient Medicines safety and Pharmacovigilance
* Medication errors
* Prescription audit
* Monitoring medicines use
* Antimicrobial resistance, approaches for containment and antibiotic policy
* Pharmaceutical supply system including procurement and distribution
* Patient education

The Program Fee of US$ 780 + GST 18 % per international participant covers
twin-shared air-conditioned accommodation at the Institute’s Guest House,
tuition, course materials, field visit, and airport transfers, with breakfast,
lunch, dinner, and tea/coffee during the program. For accommodation on single
occupancy basis USD 20 per day/night will be charged extra. Applications /
Nominations received with payments on or before 4-weeks from the commencement
of the program, i.e. January 29, 2018 will be entitled to an early bird
discount of 10% and any organization sponsoring four or more participants to
the program will be entitled to a group discount of 20 % on total fee payable,
if at least four participants actually attend the program. However, the maximum
discount an organization can avail (early bird and group discounts) is to a
