Faculty of Community & Health Sciences
The Faculty of Community & Health Sciences is an internationally recognised 
centre for community-based, interdisciplinary education and research in the 
Health and Social sciences. Through its pursuit of excellence in teaching, 
research and community service, the Faculty is committed to promoting and

active role in producing graduates of the highest calibre for community health 
delivery and has gained international recognition through its community-based, 
interdisciplinary and professional approach to education. 

School of Public Health
Professor
The Faculty's School of Public Health is a WHO Collaborating Centre, and has an 
international reputation as a leading research and teaching institution in 
Public Health. It provides health and welfare personnel from developing 
countries, especially in Africa, with the opportunity to enhance their capacity 
to build and strengthen the health sector in their respective countries. The 
Schools distance learning postgraduate programme, offered through a range of 
learning media, is unique in Southern Africa. Its educational and research 
activities are wide-ranging, with a special focus on health systems research, 
primary health care and the implementation of district health systems. 
The School is seeking to fill a vacancy of Professor in a permanent position to 
commence duties as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work with a 
strong multi-disciplinary team of academics, and be expected to provide 
academic leadership in the School and the University through demonstrating and 
fostering excellence in research, teaching, service development and related 
professional activities. S/he will play a central role in the Schools 
postgraduate and short-course programmes, including Masters, Doctoral and 
Postdoctoral supervision, and in leading and developing existing and new 
research areas in the School. 
Appointment to this key position requires: a PhD or PhD equivalent in Public 
Health or Social & Behavioural Sciences, or a related field an outstanding 
international publications record proven expertise in one or more of the 
following areas, viz. epidemiology, health systems research, evidence-based 
practice & knowledge translation, health management, quantitative and/or 
qualitative research methods and/or one of the key public health programme 
areas experience in planning, conducting and leading research in public health 
experience in teaching and supervising postgraduate students a proven record of 
developing research grant proposals.

School of Nursing
Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer Please Note: This post is being 
re-advertised and applicants who previously applied, need not re-apply. 
The School of Nursing within the Faculty of Community & Health Sciences is the 
largest and most comprehensive in South Africa. It has a growing reputation as 
a leading educational provider for both undergraduate and postgraduate 
programmes. The School is the only institution in the Western Cape offering the 
BCur programme. As a result, there has been an increase in the number of 
students. 
The successful candidate will be expected to: provide academic and 
administrative leadership initiate and lead research attract funding 
participate in strategic planning teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate 
levels. 
Minimum requirements for appointment are: a PhD in Nursing or a cognate 
discipline registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a 
Professional Nurse/Midwife/Community Health Nurse and Nurse Educator (or 
possession of equivalent qualifications that comply with the criteria for SANC 
registration). 
The following will be added advantages: current knowledge and experience 
pertaining to postgraduate Nursing Education qualifications and experience in 
Advanced Midwifery or Neonatal Care.
