Vacancy: Coordinator of the Global Equity Gauge Alliance

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed, enthusiastic,
and hard working public health professional to work with world-
renowned researchers, advocates and policy-makers focused on
cutting-edge public health work.

The Global Equity Gauge Alliance (GEGA) is dedicated to the pro-
motion of equity in health and health care through effective ad-
vocacy and community action, based upon reliable health monitor-
ing information. GEGA focuses on fairness in health and access
to health care. GEGA's 13 country-based Equity Gauge projects,
located in South America, Africa, and Asia, monitor inequalities
and injustices in the distribution of health and health care re-
sources, and aim to ensure that countries and communities can
use this information to make a difference to those with the
poorest health and the greatest need. More information on GEGA

We are looking for a dynamic and energetic person who can sup-
port and promote the work of the Gauges and the GEGA Secre-

* Identifying partners and networking with other groups, includ-
   ing human development and social justice networks, coalitions,
   and organisations
* Planning advocacy campaigns and strategies
* Preparing grant applications, briefings, and reports
* Supporting capacity development initiatives, including devel-
   opment of curricula
* Tracking and documenting the activities of the Equity Gauges
* Responding to information requests
* Preparing and editing reports and documents, and ensuring
   their dissemination
* Planning international meetings
* Supporting uptake of health equity issues by other social sec-
   tors and civil society groups
* Supporting regional networks through the Gauges
* Promoting the work of GEGA at the national and international
   levels, including through meetings and joint alliance work

* Appropriate university degree or equivalent with a background
   in public health or public policy, master's degree or above
* 3 years experience working with civil society networks at the
   international level
* Good understanding of health equity issues, health systems is-
   sues, and public health
* A high level of professionalism
* Strong writing, communication, and organisational skills
* Research skills, including strong internet research skills
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Willingness to travel
* A commitment to health equity, community empowerment, and im-
   provement of health systems

Remuneration. A competitive salary package commensurate with ex-
perience and qualifications and in line with the organisation's
job grading.

This contract position extends until July 2005, and may be ex-
tended. The post will be based in Durban, South Africa and the
incumbent should be prepared to travel internationally.
