A Distance Learning Programme for District Health Professionals in 
Southern Africa Child Health Unit, School of Child and Adolescent 
Health, University of Cape Town (UCT) Jan. 2004 - Nov. 2005
 
AIM:
To develop the capacity of health professionals to plan, manage, de-
liver, and evaluate district MCH services in southern Africa. 
 
METHODS:
* Coursework and dissertation (16,000 - 20,000 words)
* Three face-to-face teaching sessions at UCT (4 weeks in total)
* Distance learning via e-mail and the Internet (WebCT)
 
COMPONENT COURSES:
1. Introduction to Maternal and Child Health
2. Priorities in Maternal and Child Health
3. The Psycho-social Context of Maternal and Child Health 
4. Health and Development 
5. Organisation and Management in the Health District
6. Epidemiology and Research Methods 
 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
* an undergraduate degree in the health sciences 
* at least two years' experience in managing maternal and child
  health services
* resident in southern Africa
* home Internet access
