INASP newsletter: Creating and communicating local development content

An oft-repeated mantra of the information and communication technolo-
gies (ICTs) world is the need for more focus on 'content' - as op-
posed to focus on access or connectivity. Content, it is argued, is 
what people really want from ICTs. 

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Informa-
tion (INASP-Health) collated a series of case studies of 'local 
health information' programmes. This was carried out as part of a 
broader consultation around issues of local content in all develop-
ment areas, including health, agriculture and biodiversity.

This consultation was coordinated by Peter Ballantyne (International 
Institute for Communication and Development), who has guest edited 
the current June 2002 'Special issue' of the INASP newsletter: 'Cre-
ating and communicating local development content' that is available
