AFS Project Conference "Innovations in Health Care Financing"

Dear Health and Development Colleagues,

The APHIA Financing and Sustainability (AFS) Project is holding its final
project conference from May 22-24, 2001, at the Inter-Continental Hotel in
Nairobi, Kenya. The conference will bring together the individuals and
organizations who have worked with MSH on this USAID-funded project to
share experiences and help establish a solid foundation for the continuation
of health financing reform in Kenya. Organizations undertaking similar
reform projects, both within and outside of Kenya, will also find this
conference to be extremely valuable. The AFS Project will officially
finish operation in June 2001.

At the conference, MSH will unveil two new publications:
Innovations in Health Care Financing: Experiences from Kenya, which
explores how
the AFS Project has engaged partners from the public and private sectors to
strengthen health services in Kenya, and a field-test version of the
Hospital Cost Allocation Tool (HOSPICAL), which is designed to help hospital
managers analyze current costs and revenue and plan service improvements.
Visit the e Bookstore ( for details on
these and
other MSH publications.

Please visit the AFS Project Final Conference Feature: at MSH's Web site to
access the conference agenda, information on technical exhibits and publica-
tions, a list of local project partners, and more. After the conference has
ished, be sure to check back for photographs of the event, conference proceed-
